The culture of the census designated place of Honolulu is very diverse. There are a number of different cultural institutions which play a major part in the cultural advancement of the people, and make them aware of the culture of the place which they call home. One of the many cultural institutions of the census designated place of Honolulu is the Honolulu Symphony. This institute of performing arts was formed in the year 1900 and it has the status of being the oldest symphony orchestra of the United States of America of all the others situated due west of the Rocky Mountains. There are a number of other ensembles of classical music present in the census designated place of Honolulu, and these include a center for Hawaiian music, as well as the Hawaii Opera Theatre. There are several venues for music as well. The main ones are the Neal Blaisdell Center Concert Hall, the Hawaii Theatre, and the Waikiki Shell.

The theatres which host live theatre performances include the Manoa Valley Theatre, the Diamond Head Theatre, and the Honolulu Theatre for Youth. The Honolulu Theatre for Youth gives performances in a number of different venues all over Honolulu. It is basically a group of professional performances who have extensive commitments and are very educated.

The state and private entities provide support to various institutions to enable the visual arts to expand. The institute in Hawaii which has the largest collection of both Western and Asian art is the Honolulu Academy of Arts. This institute is also endowed with the largest collection of Islamic art, and it is situated at the Shangri La estate. There is a video and film program hosted by academy, which has been dedicated to world cinema and art house. This program takes place in the Doris Duke Theatre of the museum.

The Bishop Museum of the census designated place of Honolulu has the status of being the leading culture institution of the whole of Hawaii. It also has the status of being the largest museum of all the museums of Hawaii.
